colleen blackard
Colleen Blackard utilizes methods of printmaking, drawing, and painting to connect external landscapes to memories and dreams. As an Irish descendant, Blackard is drawn to return to the landscape from which her grandmother’s family came and deepen her connection by seeking out more of these ancient sites and learning their local folklore and history. Blackard spent one month in Ireland traveling to historic sites as well as the Cork Printmakers Studio. She met with an expert on folklore and scholar of religions to discuss potential sites in West Cork for her research.
Cat Rigdon
The underlying current of Cat Rigdon’s ceramic and drawing practice is the study of Cypriot antiquities and how the objects have traversed the globe. Rigdon spent time in Berlin studying The Neues Museum’s newly reopened Cyprus Hall curated by Dr. Vasiliki Kassianidou. Majority of the objects in the new exhibition were contributed by Max Ohnefalsh Richter, who excavated the island soon after Luigi Palma di Cesnola, and was banned from the island after he was caught smuggling antiquities. The exhibition features a variety of ancient Cypriot objects spanning from prehistoric limestone figurines to an Aphrodite statue from the Classical period.
