THE DOROTHY ANTOINETTE LASELLE

TRAVEL FELLOWSHIP

About the Fellowship

Recognizing the impact that travel can have on an artist’s career, the Dorothy Antoinette LaSelle Foundation has established the Dorothy Antoinette LaSelle Travel Fellowship. In the fall of 2026, two awards of $5,000 each will be distributed to artists working and residing in the state of Texas, enabling the recipients to complete a research trip to further their artistic practice.

Dorothy Antoinette “Toni” LaSelle, a pioneer of Modernism in Texas, traveled to Europe in 1927-28, after completing her MA at University of Chicago. She explored the art of England, Italy and France during this trip, which would not have been possible without a “study fund” she was awarded for works included in the First Student Art Exhibition at the Renaissance Society in 1926.

About the Juror

The guest juror this year is Lana Meador. Lana Meador joined the San Antonio Museum of Art’s Curatorial department in 2015 and currently serves as the Associate Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art. She has organized over a dozen exhibitions and installations at SAMA including Texas Women: A New History of Abstract Art (2020) as co-curator and Gateway, an ongoing project series for which she commissioned site-specific murals from Carlos Rosales-Silva (Pase Usted, 2023) and Marisa Morán Jahn (Tipsy, 2025). Additionally, Lana has served as a juror for artist awards from the City of San Antonio’s Department of Arts and Culture, the International Color Awards, Texas Sculpture Group, and the Utah Artist Fellowship, among others. Lana received her BA in English from The University of Texas at Austin and MA in Art History from Texas Christian University.
